Annual iPad Give-away…

In the Fall of 2020 we held our fourth annual shirt sale. The front design was a shape of a stop sign. The inside of the shape was filled in with names of survivors of Shaken Baby SYndrome. The back of the shirt had a set of angel wings. The wings were filled with the names of some of the children who died from Shaken Baby Syndrome. Sadly, some of the names that were once shown on the front, made their way to the back. As always, all the names that were included were with the permission of the parent and/or guardian. We are sold face masks with this years sale. This year we sold 280 shirts and 11 masks. In total we raised $2,489.14. The proceeds for this were used to purchase seven iPads and protective cases. It also covered the shipping and associated costs. To enter the drawing you/your child needed to be a victim of Shaken Baby Syndrome, a doctor or a therapist needed to submit a letter stating that the iPad would be beneficial to the child. All survivors were able to enter their name into our live drawing. No purchase was needed to enter. However, with each purchase you were able to nominate a child into the drawing.

In the Fall of 2019 we had our third annual shirt sale. This year our design had a heart on the front with the names of children who were victims of Shaken Baby Syndrome. On the back we had a broken heart with the names of some of the children who lost their lives to Shaken Baby Syndrome. As always, all the names that were included were with the permission of the parent and/or guardian. This year we sold 237 items and raised $1,668.05. The proceeds for this were used to purchase Five iPads and protective cases. It also covered the shipping and associated costs. Addison iPad winner 2017

The attached picture is real life footage of one of the iPad receipients from last year’s giveaway. As you can see, the pure joy on this child’s face says it all. Addison Grace was shaken by her daycare provider at 6 months of age. She suffered from 3 separate subdural hematomas & severe retinal hemorrhaging. Doctors feared she would never talk, walk or do any of the other basic day to day things we all take for granted. Although she is challenged with mental, intellectual & behavioral disabilities, as well as speech, language & a hearing impairment, Addison defied all the odds and proved every doctor wrong. Now, at age 11, she thrives! Instead of everyone deciding her path for her, she makes her own path. She doesn’t let anything get her down. Her zest for life is contagious! The iPad she was chosen to receive last year has contributed to her success. It has motivated her more in the last year than anyone or anything has done over the last 11 years. With the iPad, anything and everything is at her fingertips. She’s been able to learn things that were deemed impossible for her to learn and she loves to learn from it. In addition, she is able to socially connect with people. Some with disabilities, like herself. When asked about the iPad, Addison will tell you, “It’s amazing and I wish every kid like me could have one.” Us, too, Addison.

Brandon iPad winner 2017

We are so grateful for the gift that the iPad has been for Brandon. He’s been able to use it with programs to help improve vision issues he has due to being shake. He is also working on learning to communicate his wants and needs with a voice output app we have for it. An added bonus is that we have been able to use it to help him get through difficult medical procedures by having him watch calming videos through them on the iPad. It has been such a blessing for Brandon and has helped him make progress in many ways this past year!

Our third winner was, Lilith. We have not been given permission to share any details.
